Rakhi 2011

13 Aug

This year, the festival of Rakhi fell on a Saturday and most of our relatives have a holiday today. So we planned for a breakfast get-together.

The day started at about 5.00am for us and we are almost done with the arrangements by 7.00am. First guests arrived by 7.00am and the event lasted till about 2.30pm covering breakfast, brunch and lunch.

The gathering turned out to be of 50+ people and three generations of people celebrated Rakhi. Here are some pics from the day.

Rakhi-2011

Kids enjoyed the day a lot and had a blast. Some of them stayed back beyond lunch and played various games. As you can see in the pics, smiley face badges, Tri-Color wristbands (yes, our Independence Day is just a couple of days away) and whistles are hit among the kids.

Breakfast menu included primarily South Indian breakfast items – Idly, Vada, Pesarattu-Upma, Puri, Paakam Gaare (Sweet Vada), Chicken Curry, Kheema curry, various sweets and fruit juices. I should have gained a couple of pounds of weight just by the sweets my sisters fed me today!

For all the folks who joined us today – Thank you very much for a memorable morning!

Tiresome journey

27 Jun

Tiring trip to Palakol/Bhimavaram area on Thu/Fri/Sat. Attended a late night wedding in Hyderabad on Thursday and then headed to train station to catch a special train. The train that is supposed to start at 11.30pm actually started at 4.00am, eating away the sleep time. The train reached Palakol only at 1pm. After attending a wedding in Bhimavaram in the evening, boarded another special train that started on-time at 10pm. The train reached Hyderabad late on the next day, at about 10am. Hectic and tiresome.

No laptop with me during the trip and my cell phone is the only device that kept me connected during those boring hours of the day in train. Should have taken a book along rather.

Met quite a few people during these weddings and travel. Made the travel worth.

Extended weekend

14 Jun

Last weekend is really busy. Headed to Bhimavaram during mid-week and worked from there for a couple of days. Traveled to Vizag for a coworker’s wedding over the weekend. During this trip, the social events coverage is impressive: attended 5 dinners/lunches, attended 3 weddings and headed out for 2 meals with coworkers. The trip included (surprisingly) a long walk in Vizag Zoo and an evening at RK beach. Almost had an upset stomach but recovered within a few hours sans any medication.

The last weekend of Summer Holidays

06 Jun

Kids are on the verge of completing their summer holidays and the weekend of June 04th is the last weekend before their schools/colleges reopen. We wanted to go to Srisailam, but backed out in the last minute due to heavy rush there and accommodation issues for a large group of 18. So we did a weekend outing at a cousin’s place, out of town, that is a combination of sleepover and potluck. About 20 of us gathered at their place and we had a really nice time. Two days with lots of games, food and social interactions. Back in town by Sunday night.

Aahlad’s birthday party

12 May

After a long time, we had a family social event yesterday. It is a good gathering of relatives and friends at Aahlad’s birthday party. Being held in the middle of the week, most guys didn’t stay back extended hours, yet it is a long and well attended one. Aahlad is busy with all the guests and his Cowboy attire. Nice food, topped with large range of icecreams and very sweet Banganapalli Mango fruit.

And then there was some silence

21 Apr

As summer is catching up and kids are busy with early part of their low activity time of the year, life has been busy. In the last 10 days, I had plenty of activity – visited Bhimavaram, watched (in stadium) the IPL match between Chargers and Kings-XI, got a bunch of things fixed at home for summer and had pretty hectic work schedule. Due to this, there is ample silence on the social networking part from my side. Hope this coming weekend brings the noise back.
