Twin Cities Photography Club – Heritage Walk

09 Jun

Well spent Sunday morning!

Twin Cities Photography Club (TCPC) organized an event today called Heritage Walk – Looking back at History. This is the second edition of the event that got great response for participation. Today, about 30 members of the TCPC grouped together at Charminar. After the registration formalities, we headed out for a nice guided tour that covered various heritage places around Charminar, Laad Bazar and Chowmahalla Palace.

The event is well organized, thanks to the persistent efforts from Randeep Kaur, our event host and TCPC member. The guided tour helped is know the places that we would have otherwise not visited at all. The tour ended with simple breakfast at Chowmahalla palace.

We shot several pictures throughout the walk. We shared several tips and tricks during the course of the walk. Getting to know more members, as always, is the fun part of this event.

Here are my first set of pictures from the walk. This set is shot within the vicinity of Charminar and includes a few views of Mecca Masjid and the Unani hospital too.

Bicycle to work rally

05 Jun

This morning’s “Cycle To Work Rally” is a huge hit.

Today’s bicycle rally is all about encouraging people to come to work on their bicycles more often. APIIC and Hyderabad Bicycling Club (HBC) conducted this rally.

I reached venue by 7.15am and the registration process is smooth. Lines are fast reduced and well planned RSVP process completed the registration in a snap. Breakfast arrangements are good. The breakfast bag contained right kind of food for the occasion – nutrient, ample and diverse. Participation T-shirt is of very nice quality. Bike-Station and HBC arranged loaner bicycles for participants who want to use a temporary one for the day.

Participants are engaged in a nice bicycle quiz till the participants complete the registration process and gather at the start point. Presence of V.V.S. Laxman is morale boosting. Smt. Gita Reddy (Minister, Andhra Pradesh) did the flag off.

Both Sunil and myself from NetEnrich participated in the rally and we are glad to meet some of our college alumni members there. The rally covered 20km of hilly roads. Special traffic regulations and arrangements by Hyderabad Traffic Police are awesome. They ensured that the bicycle riders are not stopped at major signals and the rally is given ample road space thorough-out the 20km stretch.

I took about an hour and five minutes to complete the ride. Sunil is faster, took about 55 minutes.

Here are some pics from the event.

Having put close to 40km on my bicycle so far in the day, my legs are cramped and my body is tired, but my heart is filled with joy. The joy of participation. Thanks HBC!

Reflection

09 Sep

It was cloudy yet bright right after a heavy rain. Heading out for photos on that day made me meet this water puddle that is so still, I can see the refection of its surroundings. The contrast between the color of the building and the greenery in the foreground made this an interesting photograph.

NetEnrich at Hyderabad 10k Run 2011

28 Nov

Our participation in Hyderabad 10K run increased from last year. We made 40+ registrations this year. We collected the kits and distributed them on Friday itself.

The day started very cloudy on Sunday. I ended up staying awake the whole night and made an airport trip at 4.30am, returning home only around 7.00am. I made it to the venue along with Spurthi only at about 7.30am, barely making it before the 7.40am start date. Spurthi branched off to run with her friends. After the usual photoshoot before the run (we could only meet few of our coworkers in that huge crowd), we started the run. The arrangements made by Hyderabad Traffic Police are fantastic, as usual. The drinking water arrangements made are not as big as the previous years, but they are ample enough. Music bands at various locations upped the tempo during the run.

We made another photo shoot session at the finish line with the team members who did the complete run. Here are the pics from the run.

Xylo Third service

20 Jan

This week, I gave my Xylo for 3rd service. The service is due at 15000km or 1 year, which ever is earlier. The actual odometer reading is only 6600 on my Xylo at this time. However, I decided to get the annual service done. Along with the service, here are a few things that got fixed:

  • The outside temperature sensor on the right mirror is non-functional for a while. It was reporting -40C as external temperature. This got fixed and now I am getting the right reading on my DDAS (Digital Drive Assist System). Note that this got fixed free of cost, since the sensor is broken even without any damage to the mirror.
  • Clutch: The clutch loosened a bit in the recent weeks and is struggling at low speeds. This got fixed and now the gear shift is handling very smoothly.

Rest of the service included top up of fluids and minor tweaks. The van is delivered on time.

BTW, this time, I got it serviced by the new Mahindra service station at Kothaguda crossroads, near Madhapur. Their service is impressive.

Back Online at Home

09 Dec

My BSNL Internet Modem died on Sunday night. That has shut doors on my internet connectivity at home. The modem was installed in 2005 March (yes, 5y9m ago) and the Huawei SmartAX-MT880, one of the earliest of BSNL’s ADSL modems, finally gave up.

Having changed so many plans these 5.5+ years, BSNL took time to track ownership of the modem. My claim is that the modem is on rental and they should replace it free of cost. They thought that since I am on a high end plan that started recently with a outright modem purchase option, I should purchase a new one. This discussion finally got to a resolution on Tuesday and BSNL could track that they own the old modem. So they replaced it with a new Type-1 modem (one with a single RJ-45 and no wireless.) I have enough network gear to back it up on my side of the connection with wireless connectivity and multiple switch ports. So I opted for the same Type-1 modem. The modem got installed this evening (Wednesday) and that resulted in almost 67 hours of lack of internet connectivity at home.

Once I am back from work, I started configuring my personal network gear to make suitable changes. That story will be on a separate blog post.

Anyway, after this long wait, I am back online at home and cruising back at my top speed.
