Traffic Woes

29 Jun

Well, traffic in Hyderabad is getting worse. With schools and colleges reopened, the commute is taking longer than what it used to be. On an average, I spent 30 more minutes every day on the road, when compared to the summer months.May be readjusting the work hours would save that time, but I haven’t figured out a good pattern yet.

Today, I spent an extra hour on road. Thats time gone in vain!

Cops & Cameras

02 May

The traffic police in Hyderabad started using digital cameras in a big way. Today, I have seen a traffic constable holding a camera and taking pictures of vehicles with violations (e.g. expired pollution check stickers, etc.). The vehicles are stopped a few yards down the lane by an officer. Looks like they want to make sure that they have ample evidence when stopping vehicles.

Camera Fixed

18 Mar

My Canon Powershot A620 is fixed by the authorized Canon Service Center in Hyderabad. I gave them the camera over the weekend and they called me back on Monday saying that the camera is fixed. That is an impressive turnaround time. The faulty zoom switch is replaced and the camera is working fine now. The cost of component and service is Rs 1200 (about $25). I am really happy with the speed and quality of their service.

For those who are interested, the service center is in Abids. Hotel Jaya International Lane, opposite Reddy Hostel. The name of the shop is Ashoka Timetronics.

UPS for network devices

28 Jan

The quality of electricity in Hyderabad has gone down a bit. I have seen frequent power surges/blips at home in the last few weeks. That is making all my network gear reboot frequently. I bought a small UPS over the weekend exclusively for the network gear. Hope it takes care of network outages during power blips. In tandem with laptops, hope this gives uninterrupted network sessions. The next challenge is to figure out the power redundancy for the service provider side of the network gear.

Exhibition

27 Jan

Went to Hyderabad Industrial Exhibition with Latha and Spurthi on Saturday. Opted to go with public transportation than using my own car. Spent a lot less on shopping than on food and transportation. :-). Sony store is impressive. Very good use of space for demonstrating their products. Bade Miyaan kabaabs are yummy.
