Open Source: What do you think?

Read this article from Infoworld. Do you agree with Dave? Personally, I don’t agree with the terms he used to refer to some of the companies there. I know a lot of companies who may not contribute “code” back to opensource, but may contribute a lot to the eco system of the component they use: by means of forums participation, documentation, socializing the technologies in various avenues (say, schools, public events), etc. To say the least, they become reference (or referencable) customers to the technology of interest. That itself is a good enough contribution, in my personal view.
