I started shopping frequently at the Big Bazaar that is opened near BMTC-Double Road in Bangalore. A week ago, I received my Citibank credit card statement that featured a Rs. 1354 charge as of 2nd week of July from Big Bazaar – BMTC. I would have simply overlooked that, except for two reasons. In the last four weeks, I haven’t bought any expensive groceries etc. Also, I have been in Bangalore for only 5 days in the first 3 weeks of July and I didn’t have enough time to step out from work for shopping. I started being at work much before that shop opens and reached home long after the shop closes, for the entire month of July.
So I started checking my previous bills. There is exactly the same amount of money billed to my credit card, from the same shop, in the first week of June. What this means is either the shop or the credit card company billed me twice!
I called customer service and filled in the required forms. They said it takes about 3 months to investigate. Let us see how long it actually takes. It is surprising that neither the credit card company nor the merchant have cross checks to avoid duplicate billings.
