Today I attended my first meetup of Twin Cities Photography Club (TCPC). Very valuable suggestions from Deepak and Rajeev on using a DSLR camera. What I focused primarily during the meetup is to experiment with Aperture and Shutter speed. Here are some experiments from the day.

Shutter speed at 1/30, F-Number 14 got me this picture:

Overall, its a Sunday morning well-spent!

I shot this picture in April 2012. It was a sunny day in Bay Area and when I got under one of the overpass bridges on Los Gatos creek, I spotted this nice place. The water is almost still and the bright light gave good amount of visibility of the bridge’s bottom layer and pillars. It took a bit of walking back and forth to get the reflection aligned vertically with the pillars.

On any other day, a leaf hanging in the mid-air on a fine line of cobweb would have gone unnoticed. But having a camera in hand makes the situation very different. This photo is shot with a loaner from my cousin, a Nikon D3000. Haven’t played much with the settings though.

This photo is taken at SA Palm Meadows. Sun was bright and insects headed out to get their due from the plants. Here is one of the pictures shot while trying to capture the beauty of flowers in the community. See the crawling ants.

Hooked on to a bit of speed photography in the last few days. Spent 2-3 sessions by the curb, trying to photograph motor bikes that are traveling at a reasonable speed.

Tried various aperture levels based on the levels of sunlight and angle of inclination of light. With lot of obstructing vehicles and pedestrians, the probability of managing good focus has been limited. Results are mostly blurred, but a few photos turned out to be reasonable enough. A couple of them here:

My bicycle’s rear gear shift. Shot in extremely lowlight conditions while playing with Aperture mode of the camera. Aperture setting at 5.6 and ISO setting at 6400.
