My first Twin Cities Photography Club meetup

24 Mar

Today I attended my first meetup of Twin Cities Photography Club (TCPC). Very valuable suggestions from Deepak and Rajeev on using a DSLR camera. What I focused primarily during the meetup is to experiment with Aperture and Shutter speed. Here are some experiments from the day.

Shutter speed at 1/30, F-Number 14 got me this picture:

The same scene, with shutter speed 1/20 and F-number 8 got me this:

Here is a branch and flower, with shutter speed 1/125 and F-number 13:

Reflection Photo

24 Oct

I shot this picture in April 2012. It was a sunny day in Bay Area and when I got under one of the overpass bridges on Los Gatos creek, I spotted this nice place. The water is almost still and the bright light gave good amount of visibility of the bridge’s bottom layer and pillars. It took a bit of walking back and forth to get the reflection aligned vertically with the pillars.

Speed Photography

16 Sep

Hooked on to a bit of speed photography in the last few days. Spent 2-3 sessions by the curb, trying to photograph motor bikes that are traveling at a reasonable speed.

Tried various aperture levels based on the levels of sunlight and angle of inclination of light. With lot of obstructing vehicles and pedestrians, the probability of managing good focus has been limited. Results are mostly blurred, but a few photos turned out to be reasonable enough. A couple of them here:

Kundan’s Habitat

10 Sep

Kundan Mehta’s home at SA Palm Meadows is slowly evolving to be a natural habitat for birds. While I was doing my morning rounds with my camera this weekend, Kundan invited me to shoot a few pics within his premises. The most recent addition to his home are this nice moth and this little birdie that is still in the comfort of its nest.

In this album, the moth (luna moth I suppose) is seen on a coconut plant. The birds made a nest for their little one using big leaves in the garden. I could barely get a picture of the beak of the little bird. The parents are eager to feed the little one, as can be seen in the last couple of shots.

Reflection

09 Sep

It was cloudy yet bright right after a heavy rain. Heading out for photos on that day made me meet this water puddle that is so still, I can see the refection of its surroundings. The contrast between the color of the building and the greenery in the foreground made this an interesting photograph.

This picture is shot in S. R. Nagar area of Hyderabad, which is usually crowded.
