Spurthi’s Rank & Schoolday 2010

04 Dec

We got a call from Meridian school in the middle of the last week, stating that Spurthi stood first in the school rankings for the year 2009-2010. She top-ranked the team as per the overall CGPA informed a couple of days ago.

The school conducted an annual sports day today at Gachibowli stadium. We reached there by 2.15pm and settled down at a location with reasonable view. Surya reached school early in the morning, for his practice sessions for the dance program.

The school made elaborate arrangements for the event at the stadium. Prajnan Ojha, cricketer, is the guest on honor. Spurthi is given her medal and certificate in the first few minutes of the event.

Madhu also came by to wish Spurthi on the occassion. I also met a few friends there at the event: MSR, JRR, Vani and others.

All the sports day programs are very well organized. It took till about 7.30pm by the time the event is concluded with Jaya-Ho song.

After the event, we met with a few relatives of Latha for dinner. We had a fulfilling dinner and then headed home.

Really a great and memorable day for all of us…

Device Drivers Class at GRIET

13 Nov

I took a UNIX device drivers class to post graduate students at GRIET on Monday. The presentation is done using the new CentOS 5.0 install on my laptop. I briefly talked about the Solaris Containers (zones), Xen and other virtualization technologies too. If you need a detailed class on Solaris Containers or Xen technologies, contact me thru email.
The class materials are available for download now at http://raju.spurthi.com/classes/ under the section “Unix Internals, Module 07”.

Class at GRIET

03 Nov

On Friday morning, I visited GRIET and delivered a class to Post-Graduate students in Computer Applications. This is a two hour class that started late and ended late. About 40 students attended the class and even though the class started late, they stayed back patiently. Thank you folks!

I covered the following topics during the class

  • Network programming, Client Server concepts, Connection Oriented and Connection-less services, related UNIX system calls.
  • Inter Process communication, Message Queues, Named Pipes, Semaphores, Shared Memory.

My laptop’s OpenSolaris installation was still flaky and incomplete by that time, so I couldn’t demonstrate these concepts during the class. May be some other day.

The materials will be posted tomorrow.

Hyderabad Open Solaris Group meeting

25 Jun

On Saturday, we conducted the meeting of Hyderabad Open Solaris User Group (site, forum.) This group is still in infancy stages and I am assisting the group to come up to speed.

The venue is Kamma Sangham building at Ameerpet. We started the meeting by 3.00pm. It was raining a bit on the day, hence the attendance is relatively low. NIIT sponsored the event and provided the logistics support. The attendance is 100+ and mostly consisted of student community.

We talked about the Open Solaris in general, and the way to join the Hyderabad Open Solaris User Group. I gave an overview of OpenSolaris and demonstrated few tools on OpenSolaris. There is a special offer to attendees of this meeting. They can opt to receive a free Belenix CD or Solaris Express developer CD. For more details, refer to HOSUG page.
